Palestinian Christians celebrate Palm Sunday in Ramallah

RAMALLAH, Sunday, April 9, 2023 (WAFA) – Palestinian Christians in Ramallah, in the central West Bank, celebrated Palm Sunday today on the last Sunday preceding Easter according to the Eastern calendar, when Christians all over the world commemorate the entry of Christ into the city of Jerusalem.

In the Latin Holy Family Church, Father Yacoub Rafidi presided over the festive mass, with the assistance of Father Nadim Giacaman, and with the participation of a large group of worshipers.

Father Rafidi gave an eloquent sermon about Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week or the Passion Week.

After the mass, the traditional course of Palm Sunday was organized, and the participants waved palm fronds and olive branches, chanting prayers and hymns.

Prayers on Palm Sunday were also held in the Greek Orthodox Transfiguration Church, the Roman Catholic Church of the Annunciation, the Lutheran Church of Hope, and the Anglican Parish of St. Andrews.

After the end of the prayers in all the churches, the traditional Palm Sunday march set off in front of the Greek Orthodox Church in downtown Ramallah.

Masses and prayers were also held on Palm Sunday in various churches that follow the Eastern calendar in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Jericho, Nablus, and Jenin.
