Newspapers Review: Escalation in settlers’ attacks on olive harvesters, funeral of martyr focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Monday, November 7, 2022 (WAFA) – The ongoing and escalating attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian farmers and olive harvesters in the occupied West Bank, as well as the funeral of a martyr killed by the Israeli army two days ago were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

The papers said the settlers, protected by soldiers, attacked Palestinian olive harvesters in the north of the West Bank and stole their harvest.

In al-Mazra al-Sharqiya village, west of Ramallah, thousands of people participated in the funeral of 18-year-old Musab Mohammad Nafat, who was shot and killed by soldiers two days ago. The three papers printed pictures of the funeral.

Al-Quds daily said in a report by the Chinese news agency about the Israeli demolition of a house in the village of Jalboun, east of the northern West Bank city of Jenin, that this policy intends to deny the village a chance to grow and expand.

In other news, al-Quds said the climate conference, COP27, kicked off in the Egyptian Red Sea resort town of Sharm al-Sheikh in the presence of 200 countries. It said Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh is taking part in the conference.

It also said that Israel is upset regarding a new Palestinian step at the International Criminal Court against the continuation of its occupation.

Al-Ayyam daily said Hamas security forces in Gaza arrested two people for firing missiles at Israel on Thursday.

It said the Israeli occupation invested almost $8 million in settlement projects by Elad in the Palestinian East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Abbas received in his office the secretaries of the Fatah movement in the West Bank.

It also reported on the rejection of the convening of what is called the Palestinian Popular Conference and quoted Fatah leader Azzam al-Ahmad saying attempts to create an alternative to Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) serve Hamas and the Israeli occupation.
