Newspaper review: Jeddah Summit focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Sunday, July 17, 2022 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic-language dailies focused today on the Security and Development Summit which was held yesterday in the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Quds wrote in bold black: “At the conclusion of the Jeddah Summit, Biden says the United States 'will not walk away' from the Middle East.”

Al-Hayat al-Jadida wrote in its main story: “The final communique of the Jeddah Summit in Saudi Arabia stressed the need to reach a just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.”

Al-Ayyam said in its main story that the Jeddah Summit did not discuss the establishment of a coalition that includes Israel, and that Saudi Arabia affirmed there will be no normalization of ties with the Israeli occupation before a two-state solution is reached.

It said the final communique of the summit stressed today the need to reach a just solution on the basis of the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as saying that there will be no security, stability or prosperity in the region without a solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967.

It also quoted the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani as saying that the major sources of tension and instability in the region are here to stay unless Israel stops its practices and violations of international law.

On a different subject, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh as saying that President Mahmoud Abbas was very clear about the Palestinian constants and rights during his meeting with US President Joe Biden.

The dailies said Israeli warplanes attacked several targets early on Saturday in different parts of the besieged Gaza Strip causing heavy damage but no injuries.
