JERUSALEM, May 1, 2012 (WAFA) - The Planning and Building Committee in the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem Tuesday submitted maps to build a hotel in the settlement of Givat Hamatos, in occupied East Jerusalem, the Israeli daily, Haaretz, said Tuesday.
The paper said the plan calls for building a hotel with 1100 rooms on a hill inside the occupied Palestinian territory.
The building of the hotel will be the fourth stage of the building of 2610 housing units followed by the building of other 1400 housing units.
Director of Peace Now's Settlements Watch project, Hagit Ofran, said that the Israeli government, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, wants to impose a new reality on the ground before the parliamentary elections.
“The building of new settlement units imposes a new reality which will prevent the reaching of an agreement with the Palestinian side,” she said.
She added that this Israeli measure is a final blow to the idea of two states for two people, will prevent communication between east Jerusalem with the southern West Bank and the establishment of a geographically contiguous Palestinian state.
