RAMALLAH, November 15, 2011 (WAFA) – PLO executive committee Tuesday emphasized, in a meeting headed by President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, the necessity to continue work to gain full United Nations’ membership of a Palestinian state based on 1967 borders in the Security Council, according to a statement by the committee.
It expressed its pride of the anniversary of the Palestinian declaration of independence in November 11 in 1988, in which Palestine gained an international recognition of Palestine and its right to independence.
It stressed its determination to continue with the work and the struggle to gain freedom, rights to determination and an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The committee also stressed the need to achieve an actual progress toward the completion of the national reconciliation and to proceed towards holding comprehensive presidential and legislative elections, in addition to elections for the membership of the national council in order to achieve a unity of political vision to be able to counter the obligations of the next phase along with its difficulties and challenges in light of the ongoing regional crisis.
It expressed its appreciation to the international Quartet success towards insuring the implementation of its efforts in order to start the political process in accordance with its latest statements, particularly the recognition of the peace terms of reference; the Israeli’s recognition of the 1967 borders, the halt of all violations and provocative measures, in particular the settlement activities in the Palestinian Territory, mainly in East Jerusalem.
The committee Condemned the continual withhold of Palestinian funds by the Israeli government, and considered it an act of piracy, stressing the need to go to all international bodies, including the UN Security Council to release these funds.
