Arab League condemns Israeli colonists’ incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque

CAIRO, June 2, 2026 (WAFA) – The Arab League on Tuesday condemned incursions into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram al-Sharif by Israeli colonists under the protection of the occupation forces.

In a press statement, the Arab League General Secretariat also condemned the accompanying provocative practices and violations that desecrate the sanctity of the holy site, constituting a dangerous escalation and a provocation to the feelings of Muslims worldwide.

It emphasized that these practices represent a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, noting that they constitute a breach of the existing historical and legal status quo at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, which, in its entire area of 144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims.

It also noted that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, affiliated with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is responsible for its administration and care in accordance with the historic Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The Arab League expressed its deep concern over the continued restrictions imposed by the occupying forces on worshippers' access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the targeting of Islamic Waqf Department employees and mosque guards, and the intensification of deportation and arrest policies.

It stressed that these actions fall within the framework of attempts to impose a new fait accompli and alter the existing historical and legal status quo in the holy city and its sacred sites.
