CAIRO, September 1, 2011 (WAFA) – President of the Turkish Parliament's Political Committee Zaki Douser Thursday affirmed, during a visit to Cairo, Turkey's support of the Palestinian bid to seek UN recognition of a Palestinian state, saying that it would be a historical moment for Palestinians and the entire world.
He told WAFA, 'Now its time to make all needed efforts. It is important not to provoke any sides to make it easier for all parties to respond positively with Palestine's full membership at the United Nations (UN).'
The settlement activities are one of the major risks facing the Arab efforts for the Palestinian bid to UN, he said. 'Israel is currently launching the biggest settlement campaign to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state, and as we get closer to September, Israel is creating an extreme tension in the atmosphere in order to keep the public opinion away from the main issue; Palestine to gain recognition of a state, turning it into an armed aggression, so the entire world would be occupied with the aggression and forgets all about the Palestinian bid.'
He stressed the need to unify the Palestinian ranks in order to gain a broader support of the international community, regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state, saying 'as long as Palestinians do not have unity, calls made by Turkey and other countries will not receive international response in favor of the Palestinian cause.'
He added that Turkey has made all possible contributions towards a Palestinian state, stressing the need to stop the settlement activities because it is the biggest obstacle in the face of the peace process.
He said,' At a time when constitutional democracy has become a necessity and not an option, it is unacceptable for Israel to prevent the Palestinians from establishing their own state.'
He reiterated his demands that Israel must immediately end the 'illegal and inhumane' blockade on Gaza and that all aids should be immediately allowed to entire Gaza.
Douser concluded that Israel is not serious about peace, pointing to the continuous Israeli government's usage of stalling methods during negotiations with the Arab side, ever since the Camp David Accords with Egypt, more than 30 years ago, stressing that this is an Israeli fixed-rule.
