RAMALLAH, August 8, 2011 (WAFA) – Electricity bill will witness an increase by 7%, as a result of the Israeli decision to raise power price by 9.2%, Monday said a Palestinian official.
Chairman of the Palestinian Energy Authority, Omar Katana, told WAFA that the Palestinian Authority depends on buying power from Israel to supply it to Palestinians, which reaches 95% in the West Bank and 75% in the Gaza Strip.
He said that the Palestine energy board approved an increase by 7%.
Katana said that this increase is due to Israel’s reliance on diesel instead of cheaper Egyptian natural gas.
He said that he believes this increase will be temporary.
