WAFA Monitors Incitement and Racism in Israeli Media

RAMALLAH, March 28, 2011 (WAFA) - Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA) monitored incitement and racism against the Palestinians and Arabs published by the Israeli media between March 11 and 17.

Under the title:”Arabs in Israel are 'a ticking time bomb' and have warehouses of weapons in their homes” the religious newspaper ‘Hamodia’ published an inciting news against  Arab citizens living in Israel; warned of Arabs owning personal weapons and claimed they would use them in 'terrorist acts' against Israel.

According to the news, Major-General, Gadi Eisenkot, was distraught after his meeting with Police Northern District Commander, Shimon Koren, as Korn told him about Arabs usage of more than 250 explosive devices in addition to pistols, rifles and other automatic weapons in their internal conflicts and against Jews.

Koren said:’ Arabs living in Israel own huge warehouses of weapons in their homes and in their residential areas. If something happens in the north, these weapons could be used”.

The newspaper also published an incitement article by Menachem Klogman against Arabs living in Israel, calling them an 'a ticking time bomb' and warned of having a revolution similar to the revolutions taking place in the Arab world.

A Lecturer at Bar-Ilan University wrote an article titled “ Jews blood is the price for establishing a Palestinian state” on the NFC website Which warned of establishing a Palestinian state, alleging that it would revolt against Israel similar to what happened in some Arab countries, and that Israel will have the same fate of the Arab regimes.

He said: “Israel will be forced to pay the blood of its citizens, if the Palestinian state is established, without our knowledge and without an agreement with us, and Israel from north to south will be hit by Qassam and grad rockets and the world, as usual, will remain silent”.

Under the title: “we have to stop being nice to the Palestinian authority of terrorism” Ron Breiman, known for his extremist right opinions, wrote an incitement article that has a harsh criticism for Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on the NFC website saying: “unfortunately, Netanyahu allows the continuation of the same wrong approach which in the past led to the entry of the Arab occupation army to Israel, to the bloody Oslo war and to the racial expulsion of thousands Jews from their homes and lands, only because they are Jews”.

He added:” the prime minister, who was chosen precisely to change the old approach, continues to befriend the Palestinian terrorist authority, make concessions and additional withdrawals.’

He said: “it would be a good thing if the prime minister fires the security minister who does not perform his duties, and if he stops befriending and rewarding Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his colleagues which cause damage to the state of Israel and its citizens. The weakness showed by the Israeli government emboldens the enemy who hit us again, this time in Itamar”.

“1000 Palestinians must be killed for every dead Jew” an incitement article wrote by Dov Povarskie, the manager of Hadriyah Hdereym site and an extremist rabbi, In which he discussed the Itamar murder. He said that one of the website staff told him that: ‘we must destroy their village, and if we kill a 1000 Palestinian for each killed Jew, Palestinians would think hard before committing a terrorist act against our children. Who can kill a young child and slaughter an infant, doesn’t not deserve to live nor does his family. They (Palestinians) are animals and only understand the power of the knife”.

The Rabbi commented back saying: “maybe he is right, we all remember what Sharon did in Gaza, how Gaza people quickly learned that Jews’ blood is not cheap. War against Jews stopped for a long time. Unfortunately, those days no longer exist”.

Under the title: “the Palestinian authority is hypocrite” and on the background of the Itamar murder, Guy Bachor wrote in Yediot Ahronot newspaper an incitement article in which he criticized the Palestinian authority in general, President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister, Salam Fayyad in particular.

He claimed: ‘there are naive people among us; those who were impressed by Abbas and Fayyad’s condemnations of the Itamar massacre, but now it is clear that the current Palestinian authority is playing a more clever and dangerous game against Israel than Yasser Arafat’s previous authority; where Arafat played a double game (a metaphor for the hypocrisy); peace with Israel and waging terrorism against it, at the same time. However,  Abbas and Fayyad realized that terrorism against Israel strengthened it from inside out, so they moved to a more sophisticated game; a peaceful process and de-legitimization of  Israel, which is more dangerous than Hamas’s terrorism. So for Israel, Hamas rule of Judea and Samaria in the Arab region is better than the hypocrisy of Abbas.

He added: “The Israeli government must prepare to end the existence of the current Palestinian authority. Abbas and Fayyad must be warned now; if they continue to embarrass Israel and the United States of America by continuing their request of a unilateral State from the United Nation they will pay their existence as a price, and condemning an ugly massacre committed against Israelis will not help them”.

Following the Itamar murder and under the title “The Palestinian educational system encourages hatred of Jews”, Egal Ravid, broadcaster of (This Morning) show on Reshet Bet radio, hosted Uzi Landau, an Israeli politician, member of the Knesset for Yisrael Beiteinu and Minister of National Infrastructure. Ravid asked Landau: “what will we do now? How should Israel respond?”

Landau answered: “the Palestinian authority education is the real reason for the Itamar murder. Such massacre was committed in the past and will still happen in the future. There is no chance that peace could change this kind of an educational, even if peace agreements were signed on papers; because who supports this educational system is Abbas, our peace partner, he is the one who established the formal education, the one who made sure that the educational system encourages hatred of Jews which creates children murderers and turn them into role models, which is a dangerous issue. Therefore, changing the educational system should be a mandatory condition for moving forward with the political operations and with the negotiations.

Moshe Elad wrote an inciting article titled “Do you want independence? Then stop the incitement and terrorism” on the Ynet website demanding Abbas to improve his abilities in fighting terrorism before requesting recognition of an independent Palestinian state.

Elad claimed: “Itamar murder proves that Abbas’s dozens of intelligence and military systems are not ready to protect the region expected to be called 'State of Palestine'.

He claimed: “if the killer belonged to one of Fatah’s known or secret organizations, or if he is one of Abbas’s people, Israel must reconsider the Palestinian authority; weather it represents a political organization that aims to achieve peace or if it’s a terrorist organization wearing the innocence mask”.

Under the title: “Jewish extremists protest, while Arabs slaughter children with knives”, Haim Navon refused in an article he published on the NRG website the comparison between Jewish extremists and Arab vandals who want to sabotage the peace process, saying: “There is a big difference between the two sides; Jewish extremists protest in Arab neighborhoods raising Israeli flags, while Arab extremists slaughter children with knives. This Comparison can’t be done”.

He added: “Jewish extremists want to stop the political process, but Arabs want to slaughter the Jews. There isn’t any justification for this crime, except for the Palestinians’ deadly hatred of Jews”.

Adi Mintz, board member of the Elad Association Settlers house in Wadi Hilweh (Silwan), wrote an article on the Ynet website, called “Palestinians have to achieve their ambitions in Jordon” in which he claimed: “killers of Hadas, the four year old child did not do it out of thirst for blood, but as a result of their knowledge of Fatah’s charter that belongs to Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas; which states that armed struggle is a tactic, not a strategy. The Palestinian's revolution is a decisive factor in uprooting the Zionist existence, and their struggle will not stop unless Palestine is completely liberated”.

Mintz justified the settlement activities saying: “Judea and Samaria were almost empty, but it’s waiting for the arrival of settlers in the coming years. We do not want to control Arabs’ lives, but we want to remove their idea of kicking us, out of their minds. They can achieve their ambitions and national expectations in Jordon, because in the land of Israel, there is only a place for a single state which is the Jewish state”.

Under the title: “A Bi-national state is a disaster”                                                 Nahum Barnea, wrote in Yedioth Ahronot newspaper an article that discussed the number of housing units approved to be built by the Israeli government in response to the killing of Itamar settlers, where he expressed his support to Minister Eli Yishai’s demand to build 5000 housing units, 1000 per settler, for those who were killed in the Itamar murder.

He said: “Yishai is right, if the correct way to respond to the terrible murder in Itamar is the expansion of settlements then 400 is a humiliating number because it does not reflect the shock, disgust and anger and it doesn’t bring any consolation since it’s only an attempt to ease the housing problems among settlers.

He added: “the choice is between dividing the land into two states and creating a single state, where Jews are not the majority; this division will be difficult and painful. Bi-national state would be a disaster”.

Moreover, Karni Eldad, a right activist wrote in Haartez newspaper an incitement article titled “we must seek revenge on Palestinians and take overm the land” in which she expressed her desire to seek revenge on Palestinians and make them pay the price for the Itamar murder.

She claimed: “Palestinians did not commit the Itamar murder because we occupied them or because of barriers or refugee camps, but because their religion (Islam) forces them to fight (kill the Jews)”.

She added: “we must hurt them in the most painful way; which is their land. Our vengeance must be by taking hundreds of Dunums of their land and turn them to new settlements, and moving areas from (A) and (B) to (C); under our control, and establish prosperous areas over it; this would be the fairest punishment I can imagine”.

Furthermore, under the title: “the Palestinian state will consist of gangs of killers”, Dudu Elharar wrote an article on the NFC website where he took advantage of the Itamar operation to incite against the establishment of a Palestinian state.

He said: “there is no space for creating an additional state between the state of Israel and Jordon, all chatters about peace will stay a stupid pointless talk simply because there is no place for an additional enemy state between us and Jordon”.

He added: “the land is narrow and does not accommodate for the establishment of an entirely unneeded state, and if such state was established, it will fall apart and turn into a battlefield among the gangs of killers themselves and against us”.

“Palestinians are blood thirst people”, a racist and inciting article wrote by Knesset Member of the right (Israel Baituna), Yisrael Beiteinu on the NFC website in which she said:’ when Muslim killers attack an innocent Jewish family, with no desire and suddenly we turn into racists”.

Additionally, under the title: “Abbas runs a line to produce terrorists!”, Yoram Ettinger wrote on the NFC website an inciting article against Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas which accused him of being responsible for what he described as 'terrorist acts' against Jews.

He claimed: “the Itamar massacre was committed by graduates of the educational systems; which promote the hatred of Jews and incitement against them, in Palestinian schools, mosques and in the media under the control Abbas”.

He added: “these systems were established since 1994 by Abbas who was a deputy of Arafat, and implemented in 2005, when Abbas became the Authority’s President”.

He said: “the incitement institutions continue the path of Amin al-Husseini, Mufti of Jerusalem since the 20’s of the last century and continue the legacy of the Islamic, Arab incitement. In addition, Abbas brain washes young Palestinians and runs a line of hundreds of thousands of suicidal terrorists”.

“Arabs and Palestinians are not human beings” an article wrote by Aviad Kleinberg, an Israeli leftist, in Yediot Ahronot newspaper in which he discussed the continuous widening gap in Israeli society.

He quoted from another article published by Gilad Sharon which said: “all Palestinians without any exception are predatory animals and act out of an instinctual traditional perspective”.

Sharon claimed: “we have a culture since thousands of years ago; we are a developed society, while Palestinians don’t have culture, history, morals or Intellectual ability, so they must be treated like animals”.

Under the title:’ we have to follow the ‘pay the price’ policy and deterrence against Palestinians’ Yoaz Hende wrote an article in Yediot Ahronot newspaper, in which he called to follow the policy of ‘pay the price’ and deterrence against Palestinians and the perpetrators of the Itamar murder;  which has to be done on two levels, the first is on a tactical level through the harsh punishment of vandals; demolishing their homes, putting back barriers and carrying out inspections in the villages from which they departed, in addition to Withdrawing unnecessary privileges from whom they consider a role models, such as prisoners in Israeli jails.

The second is on a strategic level; through changing the reality on the ground, massive building of settlements.
