Fayyad to Twigg : Announcing Palestinian State Key to ME Stability

RAMALLAH, February 6, 2011(WAFA) - Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said to Stephen Twigg, Foreigm Minister of the British Shadow Cabinet on Sunday during their meeting in Ramallah that announcing Palestinian state in September is the key to the Middle East stability.

The international community's commitment to its responsibilities to end the occupation and to announce state of Palestine within the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem its capital, are the key to peace, security and stability in the region, Fayyad said.

Fayyad informed Twigg of the Palestinian Authortiy's (PA) efforts in the completion of building the institutions and their infrastructure which enables them to provide better services and achieve national readiness for the establishment of the Palestinian state.

Ending the occupation and announcing the state of Palestine doesn’t only meet the Palestinians national interests but it also expresses the international consensus to end the occupation and achieve peace in the region, Fayyad said.

He added that achieving this requests pressurizing Israel to abide by international laws and ending the occupation.

Twigg commended PA efforts in completion of rebuilding and improving their institutions. He also pointed out the need to provide all the appropriate conditions to ensure establishing viable and independent state for the Palestinians with east Jerusalem as its capital.
