President Abbas Meets with King Abdullah II

AMMAN, February 6, 2011 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Sunday met with King of Jordan Abdullah II in the Jordanian capital Amman.

The two leaders discussed the latest developments concerning the Palestinian cause and the stalled peace process due to Israeli intransigence.

They also discussed the international Quartet’s meeting in Munich which reiterated support concluding negotiations by September. The Quartet reaffirmed that negotiations should lead to an outcome that ends the occupation that began in 1967 and resolves all permanent status issues, in order to end the conflict and achieve a two-state solution.

Following the meeting President Abbas told reporters: “Within these difficult circumstances, we need to preserve the ongoing communications and consultations with the King. This is the purpose of the visit, especially with what is happening in the area specifically in Egypt and the violent campaign launched by al-Jazeera Satellite Channel.”
