Sarkozy: Israel to Show Good Signs toward Establishing Independent and Democratic Palestinian State
CAIRO, December 31, 2007, (WAFA) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy called Sunday on Israel to show "good signs" for easing the establishment of an independent, democratic and modern Palestinian state as it will be the best guarantee for Israel safety.
Sarkozy, in a joint press release with the Egyptian President Husny Mubarak, said " I said many times that it is high time for Israel to show good sign that would prove that peace is possible including freezing settlement activities.
He added that "our stance toward Israel has always been constant. Being a good friend does not mean to be a courtly one".
Expressing his will to visit Israeli and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT), Sarkozy was quoted as saying "I am telling my Israeli friends that it is time to show good signs. I also will visit President Abbas to tell him that the Palestinian future state includes Gaza".
In conclusion, he stressed the fact that the Palestinian state and Israel are to live side by side in peace.
