President Calls EU to Leave Siege Imposed on Palestinians
ATHENA, April 21, 2007, (WAFA) -President Mahmoud Abbas reiterated Saturday his call to end international siege imposed on the Palestinian people.
In a joint press conference with Greece Foreign Minister, Dora Bakoyannis, the President called on the European Union to leave siege so as the Palestinian people lives a normal life, saying that the continuation of blockade only encourage extremism.
"We call upon the European Union to lift the embargo imposed on our people, whose continuation will only succeed in encouraging extremism," Abbas said.
The President clarified that the national unity government corresponds to all expectations, saying that circumstances are suitable to implement US President George Bush vision of two state solutions.
"We recently formed a government of national unity, its agenda has been announced and we believe that it corresponds to all expectations," the President added.
The President also called on Israeli government to release Palestinian prisoners, affirming that efforts were being made to secure the release of a BBC journalist abducted in Gaza as well as that Israeli soldier seized in Gaza.
