Yemeni FM: Israel Rejection of API Reinforces its Anti-peace Stance
RIYADH, March 30, 2007 (WAFA)- Yemeni Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Abu Bakr al-Qirbi said that the swift Israeli refusal of Arab Peace Initiative (API), approved in 2002 Beirut Arab summit, and reaffirmed by 2007 Riyadh summit, was predictable and does assert Israeli anti-peace stands.
"Israel wants to impose the solution it desires on the Palestinians and Arabs which would, in turn, lead to a blocked peace process and render the whole region undergo stress and instability," al-Qirbi stated to Saba news agency.
He added that it was wiser for Israel to mull over the articles of the API, prior to announcing its rejection, as it represents the proper outlet for realizing the sole just and comprehensive peace in the region.
Al-Qirbi called upon the International Community and the Quartet to pressure Israel to accept peace choice as in the API which resulted from the International Resolutions as well as the principle of "land for peace."
Furthermore, he also asked Arab countries to adopt a political move with all international active parties, of joint interests, to persuade them to accept the API and oblige Israel to implement it, in addition to holding an international conference dedicated to end the Arab-Israeli feud.
