President Meets Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs
RAMALLAH, March 24, 2007 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas received on Saturday Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Bildt, in the presidential HQ in Ramallah city.
During the meeting, the President briefed Bildt on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, the efforts exerted to re-launch the peace process, and Palestinian exertion to end international siege imposed on the Palestinian people.
Following the meeting, Foreign Minister, Ziad abu Amer, described the meeting as "positive and fruitful" hinting that the Swedish official's visit "a sign of a supportive stance towards the national unity government".
He also affirmed the necessity for a mutual work to end international siege and Israeli occupation so as to reach peace and stability in the region by establishing a Palestinian independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
For his part, the Swedish official congratulated President Abbas on forming the national unity government saying that it is a step towards respecting Quartet recommendations.
