Sabeeh: Arab Peace Initiative "Will not be Modified"

RIYADH, March 24( WAFA) -- The Arab peace initiative, which offers peace for Israel in return for liberation of occupied Arab lands, "will not be modified," an Arab League official said Saturday, noting that the initiative was a "collective Arab position."

Assistant Secretary General for Palestine Affairs Ambassador Mohammad Sabeeh told reporters the permanent representatives, meeting in Riyadh to prepare for the Arab summit, underlined that the Arab peace initiative was compatible with the "conditions of peace" because it was based on UN resolutions.

Sabeeh, speaking on the sidelines of the meeting of the permanent representatives, said Israel "did not show enough response" to the Arab peace initiative.

He said the Arab leaders, who will meet here on March 28-29, would place mechanisms to market and activate the initiative at the international level.

The peace initiative, approved in the Arab summit in Beirut in 2002, calls for normalization of relations with Israel if the Jewish state released all Arab occupied territories occupied in 1967, solving the Palestinian refugees' issue and ultimately establishing the independent Palestinian state.
