NCCAR Condemns Israel's Assassination of Yassin
OTTAWA, March 23, 2004, (WAFA)- National Council on Canada-Arab Relations (NCCAR) condemned Monday the recent Israeli assassination of Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, as " an act of international outlawry".... "Israel's assassination of Sheikh Yassin will undermine any effort for peace. It opens the door wider for more suffering and bloodshed for both Palestinians and Israelis", NCCAR said.... NCCAR added, "Israel is fully aware that to achieve a meaningful peace with security, HAMAS will have to be included. By eliminating wheelchair-bound Sheik Yassin - a respected leader who had the ability to influence the vast majority of HAMAS followers - Israel has once again demonstrated its bad faith towards a rational and viable peace effort. The assassination is another example of Israel's insistence on using state terrorism".... "To continue building the Apartheid Wall, Prime Minister Sharon and his extremist government need the kind of bloodshed and violence that Palestinian reaction to this killing will bring", said Mazen Chouaib executive director of NCCAR. He later called on "Canada to step in and tell Israel its policies of murder will not bring security".... NCCAR reiterated that the only way for peace is through ending the Israeli occupation....
