RAMALLAH, Saturday, July 11, 2020 (WAFA) – Fireworks celebrations rocked Palestine this morning once the results of the general certificate exam for high schools, known as tawjihi, were announced by the Palestinian Ministry of Education, which said that overall success rate was 71.32 percent.
It said out of 77,539 students who sat for the exam this year despite the coronavirus outbreak, 55,302 have passed, with science stream students, where success rate was 85.92 percent, scoring an average of 99.6 out of 100, while success rate for the art stream students was 65.43 percent and an average score of 99.3 out of 100.
Minister of Education Marwan Awartani said extra efforts were exerted this year to hold the exams in light of the pandemic, which forced schools to shut down two months before the end of the school year.
Nevertheless, the exams were held on time in special arrangements at schools in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and in special schools in the diaspora to allow the Palestinian students to sit for this exam that allows them to proceed to higher education around the world.
