RAMALLAH, Thursday, July 09, 2020 (WAFA) – The telephone conversation between President Mahmoud Abbas and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin as well as the latest in the coronavirus pandemic were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida made the telephone conversation as its top story and said in the headline that the two leaders agreed that there is an international accord on solving the Palestinian issue based on United Nations resolutions.
Coronavirus, the two deaths resulting from it in Palestine and the 475 new cases in 24 hours occupied the main front-page story in al-Ayyam daily.
Al-Quds said on the coronavirus that 71 new cases were confirmed in occupied East Jerusalem yesterday as well as two deaths and 34 new cases among Palestinians in the diaspora.
It said the Islamic Waqf is going to tighten measures at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem in preparation for the Friday prayers when tens of thousands of Muslims come to pray.
Al-Quds highlighted confirmation by the Israel Prisons Service of the death of a Palestinian prisoner in Israel, Sadi Gharabli, 75, from Gaza, who died of cancer after serving 26 years of his life sentence.
Al-Ayyam said tension was high in the prisons following confirmation of Gharabli’s death, blaming medical negligence as the reason.
Al-Quds also said Israeli settlers have set up mobile homes on Palestinian land in the West Bank and torched olive trees in the north of the West Bank. It also said the Israeli authorities demolished a shop and a house in East Jerusalem.
Al-Ayyam said on the Israeli measures that Israel seized land in the north of West Bank.
It said the Palestinian Ministry of Interior has complained that Israel is obstructing work of the Palestinian security forces in Area C of the occupied West Bank in order to pressure it.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Palestine Liberation Organization said in its meeting yesterday that changing the time for the Israeli annexation of occupied Palestinian land or the size of the area Israel intends to annex are only attempts to fool the world.
It said European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the annexation is not a solution and violates international law.
