RAMALLAH, Monday, July 6, 2020 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Monday overnight detained 13 Palestinians, mostly from the West Bank district of Ramallah and al-Bireh, said the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
PPS confirmed in a press release that Israeli forces conducted multiple raids across Ramallah and al-Bireh district, resulting in the detention of 10 Palestinians.
Two of the 10 detainees were identified as a 50-year-old father and his son from Beit Rima town, and another as a resident of Deir Ghassaneh town, both towns located to the northwest of Ramallah.
Two of the seven remaining were identified as residents of Ein Yabrud town, northeast of Ramallah, another as a resident of Kobar village, north of Ramallah, another as a resident of Deir Qaddis village, west of Ramallah, another as a resident of Beitin town, northeast of Ramallah, and two others as residents of Kharbatha Bani Hareth town, west of Ramallah.
In Hebron district, Israeli soldiers rounded up a Palestinian after ransacking his house in the Hebron city neighborhood of Jabal Johar.
In Jenin district, a former prisoner was re-arrested as he attempted to pass a military checkpoint on his way back from Nablus to his hometown of Jaba, south of Jenin.
In Jerusalem district, soldiers barged their way into Kafr Aqab village, where they rounded up another.
Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
According to Palestinian figures, roughly 5,700 Palestinians -- including numerous women and children -- are currently languishing in Israeli detention facilities.
Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
