RAMALLAH, Saturday, July 04, 2020 (WAFA) – Four deaths as a result of coronavirus in Palestine and more than 270 new cases were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Ayyam said the West Bank was shuttered yesterday in an effort to contain the rise in the number of people infected with the disease. The closure is going to continue until Wednesday morning, and may get extended beyond that depending on the situation.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Israeli army attempted to block efforts by the governor of the northern West Bank district of Nablus to keep shops closed in the town of Huwarra, south of Nablus, in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease as the army tried to force the shops to open. The interaction almost developed into a fight between Palestinian security and the Israeli soldiers.
It also said four deaths were also recorded among the Palestinian community in the diaspora in Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the United States raising the total number of deaths worldwide to 165. In addition, it said, 49 new cases were recorded among the Palestinian community around the world.
Al-Ayyam quoted the UN organization, OCHA, expressing concern over Israel‘s demolition of Palestinian homes in the time of coronavirus.
Al-Quds highlighted the Israeli army crackdown on Palestinian anti-occupation protesters in the West Bank yesterday and said dozens of Palestinians were injured from rubber-coated metal bullets or teargas inhalation fired by the soldiers.
It said Israeli settlement activities are threatening al-Jumjuma mountain in the southern West Bank town of Halhoul.
The Israeli annexation plan and protests against it also continued to dominate front page headlines in the Palestinian dailies.
Al-Quds quoted sources telling it that the US and Israel are discussing the annexation in order to reach an agreement on this.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the global protests against the annexation plans continued mainly in Latin America and in several European states.
It said Russia and Turkey welcomed the Fatah-Hamas agreement to work together against the Israeli annexation.
Al-Ayyam said former US President Jimmy Carter has also spoken against the annexation.
Al-Quds said thousands of Muslim worshippers attended the Friday prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
