Newspapers Review: Coronavirus, annexation highlight of the dailies

RAMALLAH, Monday, June 29, 2020 (WAFA) – The alarming high number of coronavirus cases in Palestine as well as Israeli annexation plans were highlighted on the front page of today’s Palestinian Arabic dailies.

Al-Ayyam and al-Quds made reports about 195 new coronavirus cases confirmed in Palestine yesterday as their main top story, while the third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, quoted presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh stressing that the American-Israeli maps and all forms of annexation are not acceptable.

Al-Quds said the Palestinian political factions have called for a day or rage on Wednesday in the Gaza Strip against Israel’s annexation plans, which is supposed to start rolling on Wednesday as announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the godfather of the annexation plan.

It said American-Israeli meetings are expected today regarding the annexation.

Al-Ayyam said thousands demonstrated in 17 Italian cities yesterday against annexation and al-Hayat al-Jadida said a protest was held outside the Belgium parliament also against the annexation plan.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Fatah welcomed Hamas call for unity to face the annexation plan, while al-Ayyam quoted analysts saying that Hamas’ response to annexation will be subdued and it will stay quiet.

The papers gave extensive coverage of the situation of coronavirus in Palestine as well as elsewhere in the world.

Al-Quds said Israeli forces detained Palestinians and its navy attacked fishermen in Gaza.

It also said 130 Israeli fanatics went into Al-Aqsa Mosque yesterday under police protection.

It said the Jordanian foreign ministry criticized Israeli plans to build an elevator at the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron.
