JORDAN, Sunday, June 28, 2020 (WAFA) - Jordan‘s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the Israeli authorities’ decision to build an elevator connecting the Old City of Jerusalem with al-Buraq Wall (the Western Wall).
The ministry’s spokesperson Daifallah al-Fayez affirmed Jordan’s rejection of all unilateral Israeli measures in occupied East Jerusalem, which he stressed are designed to change the identity and character of Jerusalem.
He slammed the Israeli decision to build an elevator, designated for the exclusive use of Israelis, saying it violates international law and resolutions of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The spokesman stressed that Israel, as an occupying power, must comply with its obligations under international law, which affirms the status of east Jerusalem as occupied territory, demanding Israel to refrain from any actions that would alter the identity and character of Jerusalem’s Old City.
