HEBRON, Saturday, June 27, 2020 (WAFA) – In response to the needs of medical staff in the department of emergency at Hebron Government Hospital (Princess Alia) ActionAid Palestine (AAP) provided the hospital with 50 personal protective equipment and 50 medical masks, benefiting the department‘s 20 doctors and 30 nurses, according to a press release.

It said delivering of the equipment took place in the presence of AAP country director, Ibrahim  Ibraigth, Hebron governor, Jibrin al-Bakri, and representatives of the central emergency committee and Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The emergency response was implemented to combat the second wave of the spread of COVID-19 pandemic since the occupied Palestinian territory has witnessed a significant surge in the number of cases according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in West Bank and namely in Hebron Governorate.

This response aims to support and protect medical staff who work under difficult conditions resulting from Israeli occupation and lack of capacities, medicine and medical equipment, said the AAP press release. It also expresses AAP’s appreciation to the humanitarian role the healthcare workers perform as they are the frontline soldiers against COVID-19 to protect the Palestinian community and keep it safe from the spread of the pandemic.

This response is one in a series of interventions AAP has implemented after the state of emergency had been declared in Palestine in March. Those interventions in the West Bank and Gaza focus on supporting Palestinian organizations and strengthening the resilience and food security of the infected families by the spread of virus and improving their capacity to take preventive measures for combating the pandemic. They also alleviate social and economic impacts caused the current state of emergency.

Ibraigth praised the efforts Palestinian Ministry of Health and all civil and health organizations exert in combating this pandemic, saying: “It is important at this time to work in a complementary way with governmental, civil and community organizations to save preventive and hygiene equipment for Palestinian communities that have high rates of corona virus cases. It is also important to enhance the capacities of health workers by providing them with basic personal protective equipment so that they can fully perform their medical role.”

ActionAid is a non-government organization working to achieve social justice, gender equality and poverty eradication.
