RAMALLAH, Saturday, June 27, 2020 (WAFA) – The sharp rise in the number of Palestinians infected with the coronavirus disease and the global anti-annexation activities have occupied the main stories on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
The papers highlighted the fact that 207 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Palestine yesterday while 11 patients are in critical condition, two of them are on respirators in hospitals in the West Bank.
They also reported on lockdown policies in various West Bank governorates where the numbers are high in order to contain the disease and stop its spread.
Al-Ayyam had a story on its front page about Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem fighting two epidemics: coronavirus and the Israeli occupation.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida made the activities around the world opposing Israeli annexation of occupied Palestinian territories as its top front page story with a headline going across the page saying: "A broad international front against the annexation plan."
It mentioned the decision of the Belgium parliament that called for sanctions against Israel if it goes ahead with the annexation, as well as opposition by Spanish politicians and lawmakers and strong statements by United Nations officials against the annexation.
The paper, as the other two dailies, al-Quds and al-Ayyam, reported as well on the weekly anti-occupation Palestinian protests in the occupied territories and Israeli army crackdown on them that left a number of injuries from rubber-coated metal bullets and teargas inhalation.
Al-Quds said Israel is going to build thousands of new housing units for Jews in three settlements in occupied East Jerusalem.
It said tens of thousands of Palestinians attended the Friday prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem under strict health precautions.
It said Israel attacked during the night several targets in the Gaza Strip.
Al-Ayyam said a large number of Palestinians participated in the Friday prayer and protest in Jaffa against plans to destroy the city‘s Islamic cemetery known as El-Isaf Cemetery.
It said the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) condemned Israeli withholding of bodies of Palestinians its forces have killed.
