RAMALLAH, Monday, February 10, 2020 (WAFA) – The African Union’s summit which voiced rejection of US President Donald Trump’s Mideast plan hit the front page headlines in Monday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
The dailies reported the African leaders condemning the so-called “deal of the century” as illegitimate, and that it was reminiscent of the regulations in place in South Africa’s apartheid period.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that the African leaders also condemned the plan as a serious violation of the United Nations’ (UN) resolutions and that it “tramples on the rights of the Palestinian people”.
The dailies highlighted the remarks of Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh who attended the summit in Addis Ababa.
They reported Shtayyeh stating that Trump’s plan has no international law baseline.
He was also reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida elaborating that what Trump has offered us- the Palestinian people- is an Israeli plan that bolsters the occupation and deprives the Palestinian people of their right to independence.
The dailies reported Jordan’s monarch Abdullah II reiterating his country’s firm position in support of the Palestinian question.
According to al-Quds, Israeli forces conducted multiple raids across the Jordan Valley, while settlers attacked Palestinian vehicles to the northwest of Ramallah.
It added that a missile was launched from the besieged Gaza Strip towards southern Israel.
Al-Ayyam and al-Quds reported Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu threatening to land a “crushing” military operation against Gaza.
According to al-Quds, Israeli police pursued Palestinian bus drivers who transported Palestinian Muslim worshipers from northern Israel to Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam spotlighted Netanyahu’s remarks on the annexation of key swathes of the occupied West Bank.
Netanyahu was reported in al-Quds saying that Israel was not compelled to agree to a Palestinian state and it was not required to do so by the Americans.
He was also reported in al-Ayyam reiterating that Israel would annex the Jordan Valley, northern Dead Sea besides to all the colonial settlements in the West Bank with the large area surrounding them.
According to al-Quds, an Egyptian security delegation is set today to arrive the besieged Gaza Strip.
It highlighted the Annual Conference of the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds in Kuala Lumpur.
It reported the parliamentarians slamming Trump’s plan as a stark violation of international law and human rights.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that thousands of Moroccans marched in Rabat in protest of Trump’s Mideast plan.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, the Independent Commission for Human Rights decried a Gaza court’s decision to execute a Palestinian by hanging.
It also reported the Palestine Investment Fund announcing that it would invest US $25 million in support of the economy.
Al-Ayyam said that Israeli occupation authorities ban all Palestinian agricultural exports through Jordan, as the Palestinian Authority (PA) threatens to expand its boycott of Israeli products.
It reported that Hamas has maintained its rejection to hold a bilateral meeting with a Fatah delegation in Gaza, and insists it be held with the attendance of all Palestinian factions.
