RAMALLAH, Saturday, February 8, 2020 (WAFA) – The Israeli army shooting and killing of a young Palestinian in the West Bank yesterday, the fifth in the last few days, was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said in its main front-page headline that with another Palestinian falling in Quffin, in the north of the West Bank, the “popular rage continues to thwart ‘the deformed deal’,” in clear reference to the American so-called deal of the century that apparently has provoked the current wave of protests in the occupied Palestinian territories.
It said a call was made for a demonstration at the UN Security Council on Tuesday against the deal of the century and in support of the Palestinian position as President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to address the Council on that day on his position on the deal of the century.
Al-Ayyam daily said 107 members of the US Congress have objected to the deal of the century. It said a Palestinian document cites more than 300 violations of international law in the deal document, as the US author of the deal, Jared Kushner, said the paper in a separate story, has accused President Mahmoud Abbas of responsibility for the rise in the violence while Palestinian official, Saeb Erekat, said the deal itself has triggered the violence.
In addition to reporting on the above, al-Quds said Jordanians took to the streets against the deal of the century as the protests against it continue around the world.
In addition to the protests that raged yesterday in many parts of the West Bank, al-Quds said Israeli police raided Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third holiest site located in the old city of Jerusalem, attacked worshippers performing the dawn prayers and prevented many Muslims coming from inside Israel from reaching the Mosque for prayer.
The three papers said Israel has blocked Palestinian exports to the outside world through its ports and crossing with Jordan.
Al-Ayyam said a Fatah delegation arrived in Gaza yesterday and is expected to meet members of Hamas and the Islamic Jihad.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Abbas called his Tunisian counterpart and thanked him for his support of the Palestinian people and cause.
It said thousands of Sudanese took to the streets in Khartoum to protest their leader’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Uganda last week.
