RAMALLAH, Tuesday, January 28, 2020 (WAFA) – The release of the US-touted plan which endorses Israel’s longstanding policy of permanent occupation, colonialism and apartheid over the Palestinian people hit the front page headlines in the dailies.
Al-Quds reported that US President Donald Trump is scheduled today to announce his plan in bold red headline.
Al-Ayyam reported that Trump believes that the so-called deal of the century “might have a chance”.
The dailies highlighted Israeli officials’ statements welcoming the plan as well as Palestinian official statements blasting it.
Al-Quds said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and opposition leader Benny Gantz pledge to implement the plan once either of them wins the election.
Al-Ayyam said that Netanyahu warmly thanks Trump for everything he has provided to Israel.
Gantz was reported in al-Ayyam announcing that he wants to move ahead with the plan only after Israel’s elections, scheduled on March 2.
On the other hand, the dailies said that President Mahmoud Abbas has called the leadership to convene an urgent meeting today evening.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Abbas affirming that: “We will never accept any plan or deal from anyone in the world” without sticking the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.
Abbas made his comments during a phone conversation with UK Secretary of State and Commonwealth Affairs Dominic Raab.
Fatah Revolutionary Council was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida affirming that they would not to yield to pressure and pledging to resist Trump’s actions by all means.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted Palestinian factions calls for Palestinians to en masse participate in Rage Protests against the plan today and tomorrow and to use all forms of popular resistance.
The dailies reported Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister Price Faisal bin Farhan saying that Israelis were not welcome to visit the kingdom.
According to al-Ayyam, President Abbas refused to take a phone call from his US counterpart to discuss the so-called deal of the century.
It highlighted US senators Eliot Engel, chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Bob Menendez on the two-state solution.
They were reported stating that “the Palestinian people deserve the right to self-determination” and to establish its state.
Spokesperson for Palestinian Presidency Nabil Abu Rudeineh was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida urging Arab and Islamic ambassadors who were invited to attend the ceremony of announcing the US-touted plan to boycott it.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, Israeli forces seized a bulldozer and an excavator while leveling the ground for the construction of a school in Susiya village in the southern West Bank district of Hebron.
It said that Israeli forces rounded up 19 Palestinians, including four brothers, in multiple overnight raids across the West Bank.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Israeli bulldozers razed Palestinian lands to the west of Salfit city, while soldiers delivered a stop-construction order for a Palestinian house in Masafer Yatta in Hebron district.
They said that the Palestinian cabinet approved a set of protective actions to face the new coronavirus epidemic in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Al-Ayyam added in this regard that the cabinet dispatched a convoy of medicines and vaccinations to the besieged Gaza Strip.
