Newspaper Review: Dailies highlight tragic death of an 8-year-old boy in Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, Sunday, January 26, 2020 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused today on the tragic death of  an eight-year-old boy, who was found dead in a ditch filled with rainwater in the occupied East Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina.

The dailies said Qais Abu Rmaileh, 8, was found in a very critical condition after hours of being in very cold conditions. He was found under a wooden plank with his head stuck in the mud.

Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said Israeli warplanes and drones last night carried out multiple airstrikes targeting several locations in the southern Gaza Strip district of Khan Younis.

The three dailies, including al-Hayat al-Jadida, said Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi denied reports about Jordan’s intention to abolish the legal disengagement from the West Bank, describing the reports as baseless.

Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his rival in upcoming elections, Benny Gantz, described the US-led peace plan or the “deal of the century” as a historical opportunity for peace that should never be missed.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) reiterated its rejection of the “deal of the century” which is said to undermine the national rights of the Palestinian people.

Al-Quds said Israeli occupation authorities ordered Sheikh Ekrema Sabri, the Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, not to enter the holy site for four months.

The three dailies said Chinese President Xi Jinping said his nation was facing a "grave situation" as the coronavirus spreads.
