Two Palestinian residents of occupied Jerusalem forced to demolish own homes

JERUSALEM, Wednesday, January 15, 2020 (WAFA) – Two Palestinian residents of occupied East Jerusalem were forced today to demolish their own homes to avoid paying exorbitant costs if the West Jerusalem Israeli municipality goes ahead and demolishes them, according to local sources.

They said Mousa Bashir and Ammar Nassar, from Jabal al-Mukabber neighborhood, proceeded to demolish their homes by themselves after they got a demolition order with a deadline from the West Jerusalem municipality for construction without a permit.

The two decided to take down their homes to avoid paying inflated costs that will be decided by the municipality if its own staff carried out the demolition.

Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem rarely get a building permit from the Israeli municipality, which is doing all it can to keep the number of Palestinian residents of the occupied city to a bare minimum while multiplying its Jewish Israeli residents by building thousands of housing units for Jews only in illegal settlements built on confiscated Palestinian land.
