RAMALLAH, Monday, January 13, 2020 (WAFA0 – A Palestinian resident of occupied East Jerusalem was forced by the Israeli municipality to demolish his own home or bear the high cost of demolition if done by the municipality, as came in the main front page story in al-Hayat al-Jadida today.
This was also reported on the front page of al-Quds daily, whose main front-page story focused on the developments in the Gulf and said that the Emir of Qatar has met with top Iranian leaders in an effort to de-escalate the situation.
The main front page story in the third daily, al-Ayyam, focused on the situation of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and the tension caused by the decision of the Israel Prison Services to move minors from one prison to another without their adult caretakers.
Al-Ayyam also said in another front page story that Israel is worried the International Criminal Court (ICC) may issue secret arrest warrants against Israeli officials for war crimes against the Palestinians.
It said that the Israeli army has admitted that the killing of Aisha Rabi, 47, near the West Bank city of Nablus in October 2018 after Israeli settlers had thrown rocks at her car was a hostile act carried out for nationalist reasons and therefor her family can be illegible for compensation even though they are not Israelis. It said the reason for this was because Israel was afraid the family is going to take its case to the ICC as a war crime after Israel has released the perpetrators.
It said, on the Iran-US conflict, that Israeli intelligence provided assistance to the US in the assassination of top Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani.
Talking about Israel, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said the legal advisor to the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, obliged the Knesset Speaker to form a committee to discuss the immunity issue against corruption charges for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Al-Quds quoted Islamic officials stressing that Israeli courts have no authority in Al-Aqsa Mosque and that Bab al-Rahma prayer area inside the Mosque compound will remain open for Muslim worshippers despite Israeli attempts to shut it down.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas extended his condolences to the new leader of Oman for the death of Sultan Qaboos.
It said Palestine ambassador to the United Kingdom, Hussam Zomlot, protested to the British government against incitement by Israeli officials against the Palestinians.
It also said, along with the other dailies, that the Jordanian parliament is going to discuss a proposal against importing gas from Israel.
The papers also reported in their front page on the protests in Iran, and situation in Syria and the impeachment process of US President Donald Trump.
