RAMALLAH, Wednesday, January 01, 2020 (WAFA) – Palestinians marking 55 years for the launch of Fatah as a national liberation movement and remarks by President Mahmoud Abbas, Fatah’s chairman, on this occasion were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
The three papers included in the headlines of their top front-page stories remarks by President Abbas in which he said that “we are at a dangerous intersection that demands being firm in our stand to protect our national project,” as came in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida dailies, while al-Quds quoted Abbas saying that “the revolution launched in (19)65 will continue until victory is achieved.”
The three papers also said rallies were held on this occasion and they had pictures showing President Abbas lighting the launch torch at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
In other news, the papers quoted the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics saying on the occasion of the end of the year 2019 that there are more than 13 million Palestinians in the world today.
Al-Quds said that the Israeli government was inciting against Palestinian institutions for refusing to accept a new European Union condition for receiving financial grants for projects.
It said Israelis have filed a lawsuit against the Arab Bank alleging it was supporting terrorism and demanding $6 billion in compensation.
It also said an Israeli team is going to start discussing on Sunday annexation of the occupied Jordan Valley of the West Bank.
At the same time, said al-Quds, the Israeli cabinet is going to discuss today the calm understanding with Hamas.
Al-Ayyam reported on the health condition of hunger-striking Palestinian administrative detainee in Israel, Ahmad Zahran.
It also said that the Palestinian-owned Jerusalem District Electricity Company (JDECO) said there will be no power cuts today as the Israel Electricity Company has cancelled plans for blackouts in areas served by JDECO.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, which dedicated most of its front page for the Fatah launch anniversary, said in a story that the year 2019 witnessed a rise in Israeli settlement activities in the occupied territories and demolition of Palestinian homes in occupied Jerusalem. It also quoted a report saying that 149 Palestinians were killed by Israelis, including 33 children, during the past year.
