Israeli forces detain seven Palestinians from West Bank

QALQILYA, Thursday, December 26, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces today detained at least seven Palestinians in multiple overnight raids across the West Bank, said the Palestine Prisoners’ Society (PPS).

PPS confirmed in a press release that Israeli forces rounded up two Palestinians from the northern West Bank district of Qalqilya.

One of the detainees, 36, suffers from head and spine injuries as a result of a traffic accident in 2016.

Elsewhere in the northern West Bank, a resident of the Jenin refugee camp was detained after being stopped at a military checkpoint near Nablus city.

PPS also confirmed an Israeli military raid in Qarawat Bani Hassan town, located to the northwest of Salfit, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian.

In Jericho region, two Palestinian teens, identified as residents of Aqabat Jabr refugee camp, located to southwest of Jericho city, were detained after being summoned to the Israeli intelligence.

In Hebron district, Israeli military vehicles raided Bani Naim town, where soldiers rounded up a Palestinian.

Meanwhile, Israeli police ordered the house arrest of six Palestinian youths from the Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya in nighttime.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

According to Palestinian figures, roughly 5,700 Palestinians -- including numerous women and children -- are currently languishing in Israeli detention facilities.
