RAMALLAH, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 (WAFA) – The Israeli army killing of a 22-year-old Palestinian in Arroub refugee camp in the south of the West Bank and Palestinians marking the death anniversary of their leader Yasser Arafat were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
The papers said Omar Badawi was shot dead by soldiers during confrontations at Arroub camp, adding that initial Israeli army investigation into the killing showed that Badawi did not pose a threat to the soldiers.
At the same time, Palestinians throughout the occupied territories marked yesterday the 15th anniversary for the death of Arafat with a rally near his grave at the Muqata, the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
The three papers quoted President Mahmoud Abbas addressing the participants in the rally saying that he is committed to the Palestinian constants, as came in the main headline in al-Hayat al-Jadida newspaper, and that there will be no elections without the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem, as came in the top front page headline in al-Ayyam.
The papers also said Abbas headed the Palestinian cabinet meeting yesterday.
Al-Ayyam said in a report about Israeli plans to build an aerial cable car over Jerusalem’s Old City that this project is a catastrophe to civilization unknown in the history of Jerusalem.
It said King Abdullah of Jordan visited al-Baqoura land after Jordan resumed full sovereignty over it following 25 years of Israeli use of the land. This story was also reported in al-Quds daily.
Al-Quds said Islamic authorities have warned that Israel is trying to change the history of the holy places in Jerusalem.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted the presidential committee for churches saying that the Nativity Church in Bethlehem is going to extend its open hours for visitors in preparation for Christmas.
