Erekat asks prosecutor of ICC to open investigation into Israeli war crimes against unarmed Palestinians

JERICHO, Monday, 11 November 2019 (WAFA) - Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) asked the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Fatou Bensouda, to open a criminal investigation into the systematic and continued war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation authorities against unarmed Palestinian civilians.

Erekat in a statement called on the prosecutor of ICC to witness the hideous and deliberate field execution of unarmed Omar Haytham Badawi, 22, who was critically injured when Israeli soldiers opened today live fire at Palestinians participating in marches commemorating the 15th anniversary for the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and died of his wounds shortly after.

Badawiwas was taken by residents to a local clinic after the soldiers prevented Red Crescent ambulances from reaching him. He was later transferred to hospital in Hebron where he was pronounced dead.

Erekat called on the United Nations to provide immediate international protection for the Palestinian people.
