RAMALLAH, Sunday, October 27, 2019 (WAFA) - Attorney General Akram Khatib today gave his consent to the indictment of three people accused in the murder of Isra Gharib and ordered that the defendants be referred to the Bethlehem Court of First Instance to begin the trial procedures.
The indictment included charges of beating that caused death and accomplice to the act, along with the charge of charlatanism and sorcery.
The attorney general explained that the indictment was based on the evidence resulting from the investigations conducted by the Bethlehem public prosecutor, the prosecutor for the Protection of Family against Violence, and the Cybercrime prosecution, in cooperation with the police, represented by the General Investigation and Electronic Crimes units.
Gharib, 21, from Beit Sahour in the south of the West Bank, died on August 22 in a case that drew large scale public reaction because of the concern she was beaten to death by family members under the pretext of honor killing. Three of her family members - two brothers and a brother-in-law – were indicted in the alleged killing.
Khatib, in a press conference he held at the time, denied that the killing was related to honor killing.
