Newspapers Review: Israel demolishes house in Qalandia refugee camp

RAMALLAH, Thursday, October 24, 2019 (WAFA) – The Israeli army demolition of a house in Qalandia refugee camp, north of Jerusalem, under the pretext it was built without a permit was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

They said that the house belonged to the family of Ali Khalifa, who was killed by the Israeli army in 2011.

In addition, the papers also reported on attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian farmers harvesting their olive crops and said that a Palestinian was shot and injured near an Israeli army checkpoint in the north of the West Bank.

Al-Quds quoted Alyson King, Arabic spokeswoman for the British government, telling the paper that the United Kingdom is committed to the two-state solution and that Jerusalem is the common capital of the two states.

Al-Ayyam said the Ramallah Magistrate Court postponed looking into the case of blocking 59 websites until today as journalists held a sit-in protest outside the courthouse.

It also said the Israeli authorities extended the administrative detention order against Tareq Qadan who has been on hunger strike in protest against his detention for 85 straight days.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on its front page on the visit of President Mahmoud Abbas to Japan and his meetings there.

The three papers reported as well on their front page on the political developments in Israel with the Israeli president asking the head of the Blue-White party, Benny Gantz, to form a government, the inauguration of the Tunisian President Qais Said and his pro-Palestine statements, and the developments in Lebanon, northern Syria, and in the United States.
