RAMALLAH, June 2, 2018 (WAFA) – The killing of a Palestinian female paramedic by Israeli snipers east of Khan Younes city in the southern Gaza Strip dominated the front page headlines in Palestinian Arabic dailies on Saturday.
The dailies reported that a Palestinian volunteering female paramedic was killed and 100 protestors were injured as Israeli forces continued to attack the Great March of Return protests along the eastern border of Gaza.
They printed photos for Razan Al-Najjar, 21, a volunteering paramedic, who was shot in the chest and killed by Israeli snipers while she was providing first aid to the wounded at the fortified border fence east of Khan Younes city.
Al-Quds noted that the Great March of Return protests were held yesterday under the title “From Gaza to Haifa”.
Health Minister Jawad Awwad was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida condemning the killing of al-Najjar, whom he described as a “witness to the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation”.
Fatah Spokesman Osama al-Qawasmi was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida condemning al-Najjar’s assassination as an evidence of “Israel’s terrorist and fascist mentality that deliberately commits killings, destruction and oppression.”
Furthermore, al-Quds reported that 250,000 Muslims attended the third Friday the fasting month of Ramadan at East Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, approximately 270,000 worshippers attended Friday prayers.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that Palestinians attempted to jump over the eight-meter high concrete wall Israel has built around Jerusalem to attend Friday prayers at the holy site.
They added that hundreds of Palestinian citizens of Israel took part in a rally dubbed “From Haifa to Gaza” in protest of the killings of Palestinian protestors in Gaza.
Moreover, the dailies said that the United States vetoed a Kuwait-drafted UN Security Council resolution calling for the provision of international protection to the Palestinian people.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Palestinian permanent observer to the UNSC Riyad Mansour stating in this regard: “The US veto on the draft resolution will increase our determination to continue to work to end the ]Israeli[ occupation.”
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida also reported that a US-drafted UNSC resolution on Gaza got only one vote from the US itself.
Additionally, al-Quds reported that US President Donald Trump mulls placing the US Consulate General in Jerusalem under the US ambassador to Israel David Friedman.
Al-Ayyam said in this regard that Trump Administration mulls to undermine to the position of the US Consulate General in Jerusalem to strengthen Friedman’s powers.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that two United Nations (UN) officials called on Israel to abandon plans to demolish the Palestinian Bedouin community of Khan al-Ahmar, east of Jerusalem.
Finally, the dailies said that Jordan’s monarch Abdullah II ordered the government to freeze new price hikes on fuel after protests across the country.
