Newspapers Review: Reactions to the workshop in Bahrain highlight of dailies

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, June 25, 2019 (WAFA) – Palestinian, Arab and international reaction to the US-sponsored workshop that opens today in the Bahraini capital, Manama, was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.

The main front page headline in al-Hayat al-Jadida read:  “The President: We are against what is going on in Manama and against the deal of the century, and will remain steadfast on our land.”

Its second main front page headline said: “Palestine and Arab countries bury the Bahrain workshop and the deal of the century.” It printed a picture of Palestinian protesters in Ramallah carrying a coffin for “deal of the century”, as written on the coffin.

Al-Ayyam said in its main front page headline: “Our people at home and in the Diaspora come out against the Bahrain workshop and in support of President Abbas’ position.”

Al-Quds said: “Anti-Manama workshop activities reported throughout the homeland and the Diaspora.”

The front page of the three dailies was filled with reports on the rallies and protests at home and abroad against the workshop and reactions to it along with pictures from the rallies that took place yesterday in the Palestinian cities showing thousands of people taking part in the protests.

In other front page news, al-Quds said in a report that in order to link the Israeli settlements around Jerusalem together and to link Qalandia checkpoint with the checkpoint outside Bethlehem, Israel decided to demolish five Palestinian buildings and 11 houses north of Jerusalem and approved a decision to link the Bethlehem and Qalandia checkpoints.

It said latest statistics showed that there are 503 illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem and more than one million settlers.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said a United Nations committee expressed concern over human rights of Palestinians in the occupied territories and Israel’s settlement policy.

Al-Ayyam said settlers attacked several Palestinian homes and properties in many West Bank locations.

It said several fires were reported in southern Israel adjacent to the border fence with Gaza caused by incendiary balloons flown from the besieged Gaza Strip.
