Newspaper Review: Upcoming Manama workshop focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Sunday, June 23, 2019 (WAFA) – News about the upcoming US-sponsored Manama workshop, in which the much anticipated “Deal of the Century” details will be discussed, hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida wrote in bold, "President [Mahmoud Abbas]: the "deal of the century" will not pass because it liquidates our issue."

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said the president reiterated during the meeting of the Fatah Central Committee in Ramallah on Saturday that  the Palestinians will not be attending the Manama workshop, adding that the economic situation should not be discussed before the political one.

The dailies said that the White House unveiled Palestinian investment proposals worth $50bn aimed at supporting the Deal of the Century plan.

Al-Ayyam said that Palestinian cities are expected to hold rallies and protests expressing public opposition to the Bahrain meeting.

Al-Quds said that Jordan and Egypt decided to be a part of the Manama meeting, whereas al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Jordan reaffirmed the two-state solution as the only way to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

According to the papers, Arab finance ministers are scheduled to meet at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo on Sunday to discuss providing a financial safety net to support the budget of the Palestinian government.

The dailies said Israeli forces stormed the neighborhood of al- Issawiya in Jerusalem, leading to clashes with residents.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that US President Donald Trump will impose major sanctions on Iran in order to prevent the latter from obtaining nuclear weapons.
