RAMALLAH, Monday, June 17, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli demolition orders against many Palestinian buildings in Jerusalem, as well as a decision to cut thousands of trees in the Bethlehem area, south of Jerusalem, were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
Al-Ayyam made the demolition orders in Issawiyeh to build a park and in Sur Baher neighborhoods of occupied Jerusalem because they were built too close to the apartheid wall as its main front page story.
Al-Quds highlighted as its main front page story the Israeli government decision to destroy thousands of trees in the Bethlehem area as well as Israeli attacks against farmers and shepherds on the Gaza border and in the north and south of the West Bank.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida opted to highlight statements by President Mahmoud Abbas in which he said after a meeting with the chairman of the Palestinian Central Elections Commission that he is ready to call for legislative elections followed by presidential elections.
The same paper also quoted Palestinian official Saeb Erekat saying that the American team working on the so-called deal of the century wants to replace peace for money and prosperity.
The paper quoted the Palestinian Monetary Authority saying that banks in Palestine have an overflow of four billion Israeli shekels.
Al-Quds said on its front page that Qatari officials have arrived in Gaza carrying money for assistance and projects.
It said Hamas has declared a general strike on June 25 to coincide with the US-sponsored meeting in Bahrain.
Al-Ayyam quoted US envoy Jason Greenblatt saying that declaration of the deal of the century will be delayed until November.
It quoted Israel’s foreign minister, Yisrael Kats, saying that his country will take part in the Bahrain meeting.
It said Fatah has canceled the general strike on June 25 against the Bahrain meeting and replaced it with protests.
It also said Israel wants to enact a law targeting activities in occupied Jerusalem supported by the Palestinian Authority.
