RAMALLAH, Saturday, June 15, 2019 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted as their main front page story today the Palestinian protests against the ongoing Israeli occupation in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip and the Israeli army crackdown on the protests that led to injury of dozens of people.
The papers said dozens were injured from Israeli army gunfire and teargas fired at the protesters part of the Great March of Return activity at the Gaza border with Israel with al-Quds putting the number at 50 people.
No figure was put for the injuries in the weekly West Bank anti-wall, anti-settlements protests, which was said to be in the dozens.
The dailies also reported on the Israeli airstrikes against targets in the Gaza Strip that caused damage to property but no injuries.
Al-Ayyam said that Egyptian and United Nations efforts have succeeded in maintaining calm in Gaza after Israel has promised to implement the understandings previously reached for calm.
Al-Quds said in a report that Gaza fishermen are left helpless and without a source of living after Israel has closed the sea for them.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted as well as part of its main front page story on the protests the condemnation by Fatah of a wedding event for the son of the mayor of the village of Deir Qaddis near Ramallah attended by Israeli settlers.
Al-Quds said Fatah adopted several measures against the mayor, who was supported in his bid for the seat by Fatah, including throwing him out of the movement and seeking to replace him.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida also highlighted the meeting of Fatah Revolutionary Council, which focused on the planned American-sponsored meeting in Bahrain, and said the meeting denounced the Bahrain event and called for boycotting it. It also called for strengthening the home front to face the plots against the Palestinian cause.
This was also reported on the front page of al-Ayyam, which also quoted Palestinian official, Saeb Erekat, saying that Washington is inciting against President Mahmoud Abbas for rejecting the Bahrain meeting.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said a US law is being proposed to protect the rights of Palestinian children under Israeli occupation.
Al-Quds reported on the meeting of the International Federation of Journalists held in Tunis.
