JERUSALEM, Thursday, March 14, 2019 (WAFA) – Jewish fanatics today held provocative tours of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem’s Old City under heavy Israeli police protection heeding calls by their leaders to flock to the Muslim holy site in order to claim it as a Jewish temple.
Firas al-Dibs, from the Islamic Waqf department which is in charge of the Mosque compound, said that more than 150 fanatics entered the compound during the morning visit hours and paraded through it provoking Muslim worshippers. Some of them would leave the compound after their tour and then return once again with another group.
Jewish fanatics are seeking to turn Bab al-Rahma prayer area inside the compound into a Jewish temple, a step strongly opposed by the Waqf department and Palestinians in general who warn that such attempts could lead to violence.
