CEC chairman briefs President Abbas on preparations for elections

 

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, February 27, 2019 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas received in his office today the chairman of the Central Elections Commission Hanna Nasir, who briefed the president on the latest regarding preparations for holding legislative elections in the Palestinian territories.

The Palestinian leadership called for holding legislative elections after the Constitutional Court has dissolved in December the current Palestinian parliament elected in 2006. However, no date has yet been set for the elections.

Nasir also met today with the European Union (EU) Special Representative to the Middle East Peace Process Susanna Terstal at the CEC’s headquarters in al-Bireh, Ramallah’s twin city.

The meeting discussed the latest Palestinian developments in regards to the anticipated elections in the Palestinian territories, according to a CEC press release.

On her part, Terstal expressed EU’s support to the democratic process in Palestine and the work of the CEC, it said.
