ICRC warns of regional crisis amid escalating hostilities in the Middle East

GENEVA, June 14, 2025 (WAFA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) expressed deep concern on Saturday over the recent escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, warning that any further intensification could trigger a wider regional crisis with devastating consequences.

In an official statement, the ICRC said that the region—already burdened by decades of conflict—cannot afford a new wave of violence, which would only worsen existing humanitarian emergencies and force more people to flee their homes.

“Civilians in the Middle East have borne the brunt of repeated crises for decades and urgently need a reprieve from the cycle of armed violence,” the statement read.

The organization stressed the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law and urged all parties to prioritize de-escalation, the protection of human life, and the preservation of human dignity.

The ICRC also highlighted its ongoing commitment to working alongside partners from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, who have activated emergency response teams on the ground to meet the growing humanitarian needs.
