LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND, Saturday, January 26, 2019 (WAFA) – Lina Osama Quteineh, a doctor in genetics from Jerusalem, won the second prize in Switzerland for best published research in organ transplant in 2018.

Physicians in organ transplant in Switzerland evaluated in their recently held 14^th annual conference 19 published studies in organ transplant and selected the best three among them, including the study by Quteineh, which was published in the American Journal of Transplantation, one of the best in the world in this field, in June of last year under the title: Genetic immune and inflammatory markers associated with diabetes in solid organ transplant recipients.

In a later session, the transplantation doctors heard presentations from the three winning studies. Quteineh’s paper won second prize in best clinical research and included a financial award.

The study looks for the first time into the connection between Gene SP110 in a patient undergoing transplant and diabetes, which is one of the complications leading to heart disease and one of the leading causes of death after organ transplant, although the organ transplant was working effectively.

Quteineh graduated in 2003 with a medical degree from the Al-Quds University’s School of Medicine in Jerusalem and got her Ph.D. in 2008 from the University of Paris 6.
