DAVOS, Wednesday, January 23, 2019 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah met on Wednesday with Swiss President Ueli Maurer on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos and discussed with him economic cooperation and implementation of international law in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories.
During the meeting, Hamdallah stressed the need to strengthen bilateral Palestinian-Swiss relations, particularly economic cooperation, through the formation of a joint economic committee.
He thanked Switzerland’s support for the Palestinian people as well as for the two-state solution.
He also stressed the importance that Switzerland and the international community increase financial support to the United Nations Works and Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) pending the attainment of a just and comprehensive solution to the refugee issue in line with UN resolutions and international law.
The Prime Minister called on Switzerland to support a multilateral mechanism for talks with Israel, as called for by President Mahmoud Abbas, and stressed the importance of implementing international resolutions on the Palestinian question, especially the Geneva Conventions.
He said that Switzerland should play an active role in solving the Mideast conflict, considering that it is the depository state of several international conventions.
