RAMALLAH, Saturday, January 19, 2019 (WAFA) – The weekly Friday protests at the Gaza border with Israel and the anti-settlements protests in the West Bank that usually end up with several Palestinians shot and injured by Israeli army gunfire and tear gas grenades were the focus of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Saturday.
The papers said dozens were injured in Gaza and in the West Bank during these protests that normally develop into clashes when the Israeli army uses excessive force and gun power to quell the angry Palestinians struggling to end the brutal Israeli occupation of their homeland.
The papers also said the army used explosives to destroy the home of Khalil Jabarin in Yatta in the south of the West Bank after charging him of attacking and killing an Israeli settler in the occupied West Bank four months ago. The destroyed home was a second floor apartment, but in the end the entire two-story building was severely damaged.
The three papers printed pictures of the destroyed home and of women fighting to free a Palestinian boy from the hands of fully armed Israeli soldiers.
Al-Quds also reported on a protest in occupied East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood against Israeli takeover of a Palestinian home owned by the Sabbagh family after an Israeli court ruled the house is owned by the settlers despite the fact the settlers could not prove legitimate ownership. The protesters considered the decision of the Israeli courts as political and illegal.
Al-Ayyam said in a report by its Jerusalem correspondent on this subject that Palestinian families fear losing their homes in Sheikh Jarrah for the benefit of the settlers.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Jordan, as custodian of the Islamic holy places in Jerusalem, denounced Israeli construction of metal bars on the combined wall of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City of Jerusalem and stressed the necessity of keeping the status quo in Jerusalem and at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It said Foreign Minister Riyad Malki headed the Palestinian delegation to the Arab economic development summit held in Beirut.
The three papers also said the Armenians celebrated Christmas in Bethlehem.
