RAMALLAH, Thursday, January 17, 2019 (WAFA) – Al-Ayyam Arabic daily highlighted on its front page on Thursday reports about the features of the American so-called deal of the century as detailed in Israeli media.
The plan, it said, which is expected to be presented to the Palestinians and Israelis after the Israeli elections in April, talks about establishing a Palestinian state on 90 percent of the area of the West Bank with land swap after deciding what area of the West Bank will be annexed by Israel, mainly where the settlement blocks are located, and Jerusalem will be divided with the Palestinians having their state on parts of occupied East Jerusalem while Israel will have its capital in West Jerusalem and control over the Old City, which will be shared by several parties.
The paper quoted Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, saying that no plan will have any chance of success if it does not say that all of occupied Jerusalem, with its Old City, is capital of the Palestinian state.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted reports welcoming the presidency of Palestine of the Group of 77 and China in the United Nations.
Al-Quds reported on the Israeli measures in the occupied territories, such as raids, arrests, demolitions, confiscation of money and other things. This was also reported in the other two dailies.
The cold front that hit the region on Wednesday and brought heavy rain and snow on some areas was featured on the front page of the three dailies.
The dailies also highlighted a statement by the governor of the Palestinian Monetary Authority, Azzam Shawwa, saying that lawsuits brought before US courts by Israeli Americans against three banks operating in Palestine do not have a legal base.
Al-Quds quoted Foreign Minister Riyad Malki saying that Palestine is going to submit an application for full membership in the UN.
It said the Israeli lobby and extreme right in the US have intensified their attacks against Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, the first Palestinian-American to win a seat in the US Congress.
It said a Hamas delegation is set to visit Cairo soon to discuss several issues related to the situation in Gaza.
It also said the Ministry of Health and factions in Gaza have warned of “disastrous consequences” due to shortage in fuel.
The paper said Muslim leaders in Jerusalem have met to discuss the implications of Israeli measures in Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It also wondered about the fate of the decisions issued by Attorney General Ahmad Barrak after the Palestinian Supreme Court has annulled his position.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said LATAM airlines has apologized for an incident that happened with a Palestinian passenger.
It quoted a Palestine Liberation Organization official saying that work is underway to renew the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
