Israeli forces detain 14 Palestinians, injure two others in West Bank raids

BETHLEHEM, Wednesday, January 16, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Wednesday detained 14 Palestinians and injured two others during multiple overnight raids in various parts of the West Bank, said Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

Israeli military vehicles raided Tuqu town, southeast of Bethlehem, where soldiers detained three Palestinians.

Israeli forces conducted other raids into Husan and Beit Fajjar towns, west and south of the city, where they detained three other Palestinians, including a 14-year-old minor, and ransacked several houses.

Meanwhile, soldiers detained three Palestinians after stopping them at flying checkpoints on Jenin-Nablus Road. The detainees were identified as residents of Jaba‘ town, southwest of Jenin city.

This came as Israeli troops shot and injured two Palestinian young men during a raid that triggered violent confrontations in Anza village, south of Jenin.

Soldiers shot and injured Ali Qassem Sadaqa with live rounds in their legs. Both casualties were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

PPS said that Israeli forces also detained a Palestinian from Ramallah and al-Bireh district.

In Jerusalem district, forces raided Qalandia refugee camp, where they detained two Palestinians after storming their families’ houses.

Another military raid was carried out in Qatanna town, northwest of Jerusalem, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian.

Two more Palestinians were rounded up from Hebron and Tulkarem districts.

Israeli forces frequently conduct large-scale overnight detention raids almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

Clashes often erupt between Palestinian youth who attempt to block soldiers’ passage, throwing stones and empty bottles and are met with live fire, rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas canisters, often resulting in serious, sometimes fatal, injuries.

According to Palestinian figures, some 6,500 Palestinians continue to languish in Israeli detention facilities, including scores of women and hundreds of minors.
